News Literacy District
Fellowship program
Launched in 2022, the District
Fellowship program helps school
districts create district-wide models
for teaching news literacy.
Each year, districts are selected to participate
in a cohort through an application process.
Over a three-year commitment, each district
receives a stipend and works closely with
NLP to design and carry out plans that
ensure all students in their district learn news
literacy before high school graduation.
Fellows also join a strong peer network
— sharing strategies, mentoring new
participants and supporting NLP’s broader
efforts to expand access across the country.
Training and support for
educators and districts
Outside of the fellowship program,
we also collaborate with individual
schools and districts — whether
they’re just getting started or
already teaching news literacy.
We provide in-person, virtual and ondemand training that helps educators
use our resources effectively.
We also offer webinars and presentations
for deeper dives into key news literacy
topics. These are featured on the edWeb
learning network and at educational
conferences nationwide. Training is a key
focus of both our annual National News
Literacy Week and our 昀椀rst-ever National
News Literacy Conference in October 2026.
